Elder Selection Process
As we prepare to elect new members to the Elder Board, we want to share what the Church Constitution currently says about the Elder Selection Process. Below is a condensed version of what is stated in the Faith Church Constitution.
Selection of Elders
Selection of Elders
- Nomination: Nominations for Elder Candidates may be received at any time during the year but must be received no later than March 1 to be eligible for a vote at the annual congregational meeting.
- This year, there were 12 nominations for the Elder Board. Of the 12 nominees, 6 self-selected out of consideration, and 6 moved on for review.
- Review: The Board of Elders will carefully and confidentially review all nominees based on the Biblical qualities of calling, character, capability, and compatibility.
- This year, 4 Elder Nominees were advanced for elder candidacy.
- Candidacy: After the Board of Elders reviews the nominations, approved nominees will be contacted and asked to consent to their names being placed before the congregation at the annual congregational meeting. Elder Candidates begin attending Elder Board meetings during this stage of the process.
- This year, 4 Elder Board Nominees will be up for election.
- Election: Each individual candidate will be selected based on a “yes or no” congregational ballot. A positive vote of 75% of members present at the annual ministry meeting will be required. (Please note that only Faith Church members are eligible to vote.)
- This year, the Annual Meeting will occur on Sunday, August 17th during our regular Sunday service times at 9:00 AM & 10:45 AM.
- Assumption of Office: Newly elected elders will assume office on the first day of Faith’s fiscal year. Outgoing elders will serve until the last day of Faith’s fiscal year.
- This year, Faith’s new Fiscal Year starts on September 1st.

Jon Dong
Hi, I’m Jon! I was born and raised here in Kent, Washington. I am the son of immigrant parents, longtime faithful C&MA ministry workers, and grew up at the Vietnamese C&MA churches of the Seattle-area — hearing stories of the Lord’s miraculous preservation of His people from perils of the Vietnam War. As a teen, scripture helped me see clearly that my own life needed to be surrendered to Jesus. I was baptized at 13 and have been walking with Him ever since—sometimes faithfully, sometimes falteringly, often echoing the words of Come Thou Fount: “prone to wander, Lord, I feel it.” But even in those moments, I’ve always found myself drawn back to His grace.
Iwona immigrated to the United States as a young child from then-communist Poland with her parents and siblings—bringing little with them but their faith in God and clothes on their back. She and I met in optometry school and were married seven years ago. During our training, we had the opportunity to serve together, often in majority Spanish-speaking communities, from Western Chicago to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Every rhythm of our life is cross-cultural—me coming from a Vietnamese-American background, Iwona from a Polish one. It shows in the way we raise our children, who are growing up dancing between the languages and customs of their families and friends. It is the life of our clinical practice as well: at See Saw Eyecare here in Kent—one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the entire country.
We’ve been with you all at Faith Church for the last six years of joys and, of course, many challenges. Our kids—Krystian (6) and Anastazja (5)—keep us on our toes, and we’re joyfully awaiting the arrival of our third child this November. Iwona fills our home with warmth, creativity, and hospitality, and orchestrates work, homeschooling, church and family life with true Proverbs 31 grace. Over the past several years, I’ve had the joy of helping lead our congregation in worship alongside a team of skilled, dedicated, and deeply worshipful musicians. It’s important to me that we not only lead our congregation well, but also build one another up—helping each other grow in skill, in spirit, and in a deeper love for the One we’re singing to.
I step into this elder candidacy with open hands and a listening heart. I want to hear what you’re praying for, what you’re hoping for, and where you believe God is leading us as a church. I believe in us building genuine community — a church where families are known, cared for, and invited into shared rhythms of life. A church like what is described in Acts 2—devoted to the teaching, to prayer, to meals and generosity, to worship and life together. A church where real needs are met, friendships run deep, and the joy of the gospel spills out into the neighborhoods around us. I’m grateful to be on this journey with you.

Richard Fricks
If you have grade school-aged kids at Faith, chances are you know me simply as Mr. Fricks. I've lived in the Kent area my entire life, becoming a believer in the mid-1980s through the outreach ministry of Faith Church. I’ve been part of the congregation ever since.
It was during this time that I met my wife—we were married at Faith and together raised our four children in the church that we’ve called home for almost 40 years.
Over the years, I’ve been privileged to serve in many ministries at Faith. From drama and acting with the Kings Players, to prison outreach with His Harmony, to leading the DK college and career group, my path has been defined by active service. I’ve taught children through Faith’s youth ministries, hosted kids camp at TeePee Town, participated yearly in VBS, taught adult Sunday school, and directed our annual musical productions—bringing stories to life and building community through creativity and conviction.
I believe I meet the Biblical qualifications to serve as an Elder at Faith Church. More importantly, I feel a deep calling to use the gifts God has entrusted to me to help guide and support the church in a way that brings Him glory. My hope is to continue building a fellowship that reflects His grace, truth, and love.

Jimmy Sta. Rosa
My name is Jimmy Sta. Rosa. I grew up in Kent. I met my wife April while we were at Kent Meridian High School as part of the marching band.
She brought me to her church and I accepted Christ as my savior after a lecture on Revelation.
During the week I am an estimator for a commercial painting company and April at a local HVAC company as a contract administrator amongst other duties. Our daughter Sophia attends a small university in North Carolina in hopes of becoming a book editor.
My family has been a part of Faith Church for about 14 years. I started serving at Faith with the Kids and transitioned to Student Ministries about eight years ago and have really fallen in love with the students. As a worker in Faith Student Ministries, I get to co-lead a group of high school boys and occasionally teach a lesson on Sunday mornings for the students.
I have also been an usher for most of our time here. It is my great honor to greet you all each Sunday morning as we start our worship time together.
My prayer is to be used by God for His glory. In this role of elder I plan to share the experience and wisdom God has blessed me with and help us build a household that is winsome, welcoming, and a blessing for all our neighbors.

Steve Blair
Steve Blair and his wife, Angie, have been serving the body of Faith for over 26 years. They have four wonderful children and an amazing daughter in law; they are Justin and his wife Tiegan, Ashley, Sarah, and Nate. The Lord has also blessed Steve and Angie with three grandchildren and counting, Casey, Finnleigh, and Lachlan, as well as a lovable little furry person named Blitz.
Steve accepted Jesus into his life at a very young age, but when his mother died at age 13, heartbroken and angry, Steve broke away from the church and for many years tried to live life his way. It was only after much seeking, and finally coming to Faith Church with his wife that he realized he needed to live life “His way”.
Since that time Steve has steadily served in multiple ministries, and currently heads up the Safety Team here at Faith, serves as a Biblical Counselor, and alongside others on the Faith Cares team. Steve is humbled at the thought of being an Elder, but love’s this Church and its people, possesses a servant’s heart, and is passionate about teaming with the other elders and doing what he can as per God’s will to further discipleship and help bring glory to Christ’s Kingdom here at Faith.
